National Workshop on Earthquake Risk in Kathmandu

On the occasion of Earthquake Safety Day 2068, Centre of Resilient Development (CoRD) in association with Department of Urban Development & Building Construction (DUDBC), UN-HABITAT and Disaster Preparedness Network (DP- NET) Nepal, jointly organized One-day National Workshop on ” Earthquake Risk in Kathmandu – are we Prepared ?? ” on 13th Magh 2068 (27th  January, 2012).

The main objective of the workshop was to review the lessons learned from the Asoj 1 earthquake and other earthquakes in the recent past in the world and to identify strength, gaps and challenges and to chart future course of actions.

Inaugural session of the workshop was addressed by Secretary of Ministry of Physical Planning and Works and Transport (MOPPWT). In his inaugural speech, Mr. Tulsi Prasad Sitaula put forward the earthquake and its probable future impact in case of Kathmandu.  During the workshop Mr. sabin Sharma, journalist of Rajdhani Daily was honored and awarded by the Disaster Journalism Award for his outstanding performance in the journalism in sector of disaster.
